Aligned Work is Way Better Than Hustle, Here’s Why

In a world that glorifies hustle, it’s easy to believe that the key to success lies in the grind. The burnout-inducing hours, and the personal sacrifices are part of your success story right? But what if there’s another way? What if success isn’t just about the destination but also the journey?

I’ve had countless conversations with business owners who embarked on the hustle, believing it was a temporary phase. They thought that after a certain amount of grind, they would become successful, and life would slow down again and fall into place. And for some, this might work. But for many, the hustle takes a toll long before that summit of success is reached. Hustle often leads to burnout.

The truth is, the mountaintop of success, when reached through relentless hustle alone, often feels hollow. I’ve taken the time to listen closely to successful people who have gone before me and you know what their prevailing message is?

The mountaintop of success you’re hustling toward isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Without meaning and value, the “success” sucks.

There’s a different path to success – one rooted in meaning and purpose. What if the process of creating and running your business could be just as fulfilling as the targets you’ve laid out for yourself?

Welcome to the Era of Aligned Work

Alignment is better than hustle. It’s about harmonizing your values, passions, and business goals. It’s crafting a business that not only makes you money but also resonates deeply with your soul. Imagine running a business where the hang along the way feels authentic and purposeful.

Here are some things to consider when you’re wanting more alignment in your work:

  1. Define Your Core Values: Start by identifying what matters most to you. These are the fundamental beliefs that when you use them to guide your decision-making in your business, your business feels more like it belongs to your life rather than being a separate thing that has it’s own rules (rules that often feel icky to heart-centred entrepreneurs).
  2. Set Clear Goals: These are not just financial or time goals, but goals that help you accomplish what’s important in your life. I like to think about goals in 3 categories: People, Projects and Patterns. How do you want to shape your life and business as you relate to the people around you, the things you want to accomplish or acheive and the inner you that runs everything. When your goals are aligned all around, they’re easier to accomplish and bring you closer to your desired outcomes.
  3. Understand Your Ideal Customer: Define your ideal customer or client. Understand their needs, preferences, and challenges. Align your products or services to cater to these specific needs. When you are solving real problems for your target audience, your business becomes more meaningful and purpose-driven.
  4. Embrace Your Unique Strengths: It’s ok to focus your business around the things you’re good it. It’s ok to do things a little differently than everyone else. Focus on leveraging your strengths in your business endeavours. Align your tasks and responsibilities with what you excel at. When you’re working in your zone of genius, you naturally feel more connected to your work. (we can talk about delegating later, but it’s part of how you can accomplish this! It’s hard but so worth it!)
  5. Practice Mindful Decision-Making: Be mindful of the decisions you make in your business. Let your values, goals, and overall vision be your decision-making filter. And try to stop letting the noisy, bossy internet be your decision-making filter for your biz. Mindful decision-making looks ahead to the potential impact of your choices on your business and your well-being.

Remember that creating alignment is an ongoing process. Regularly assess your business activities, goals, and decisions to help you remain in harmony with your personal values and aspirations. Adjustments and realignments might be necessary as your business evolves and your priorities shift! Sometimes this can be challenging, confusing and feel a bit mixed up. That’s where Alignment Coaching can help.
